Montréal saxophonist Yves Charuest has invited Spanish pianist Agustí Fernández, Montréal-born US-based drummer Peter Valsamis, and Montréal bassist Nicolas Caloia for an evening of improvised music characterized by instrumental intricacy, sonic exploration, and deep musical connection.

Yves Charuest

Canadian saxophonist Yves Charuest has worked on the jazz and new music scene in the 1980-90s with many canadian musicians such as Michel Ratté, Jean Beaudet, Guillaume Dostaler, Lisle Ellis and Jean Derome, in different groups and projects: I Like Jazz, Evidence, Duo Charuest-Ratté, Trio Michel Ratté, Wreck’s Progress, among others.
Charuest was also a member of the Peter Kowald Trio (1985-1990) with Louis Moholo and played with William Parker, John Betsch and Mathias Schubert.
More recently, Charuest has been involved on many projects: Duo Charuest-Caloia, Murray Street Band, Ratchet Orchestra, The Disguises, Charuest/Shalabi/Caloia and Four-sided Circle, with Nicolas Caloia, Lori Freedman, John Heward, William Parker, Sam Shalabi, Scott Thomson and Josh Zubot.


Agustí Fernández


Agustí Fernández (Palma de Mallorca, 1954), with a perfectly based career and a well-deserved international reputation, is one of the Spanish musicians of major international projection and a world reference in the field of improvised music. Fernández has worked with the founding fathers of the free improvisation scene Peter Kowald, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker and Barry Guy, a.m.o., and with improvisers from all over the world. He is a member of the Evan Parker Electro-acoustic Ensemble and of the Barry Guy New Orchestra, since 2002. He appears on more than 50 CDs so far.
